The nurse-patient relationship is unlike any other. Patients look to nurses to provide clinical support. They seek out nurses for answers and guidance. And they rely on nurses to see them through in their time of need. FMCNA’s UCAP program is designed to recognize RNs as they demonstrate advanced clinical practice and leadership for our patients with chronic kidney disease. UCAP offers nurses three tracks to choose from based on your objectives for career development:

• Education
• Administration
• Clinical specialty

The nursing practice and administration tracks prepare you to advance to other positions, such as education coordinator or clinical manager. The clinical specialty track provides opportunities to develop clinical expertise. No matter which track you choose, you'll be developing your clinical practice to be there for our patients with innovative, expert care when and where it counts most.

Each track is completed through various self-study and instructor-led activities, allowing eligible nurses to continue with their practice as they advance through five levels of education: RN 1 to RN 5. The program is designed to fit with your schedule, so you decide what pace works best for you.

This program includes:

• Goal setting and support for selection of UCAP Core Elective Requirements
• UCAP Tracking Tool to track progress on RN level requirements
• Completion of Core Elective Advancement Activities (RN 1—RN 5)
• Mentoring and identification of growth opportunities
• Proof of completion of Core Elective Requirements
• Review of UCAP Portfolio by clinical manager and nurse leadership team
• Annual performance review to assess merit increase based on practice level

As a patient care technician, you’re on the frontline of patient interaction. We want our PCT’s to be confident, so we ensure that they’re up to date on the latest technologies and have the proficiency and expertise to monitor patient conditions and respond to their concerns. At FMCNA, we know that the high standard of service our patient care technicians deliver is directly connected to our excellence in educational preparation. We’re committed to ensuring the highest rate of certification and ongoing continuing education for our dedicated team of PCTs. From co-sponsored test site locations with the American Nephrology Nurses Association to test-taking tips and intranet training modules, we offer the encouragement and support required to successfully obtain and maintain national certification as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician. In addition, PCT Certification Reimbursement is available for eligible candidates. As a PCT with FMCNA, you can depend on getting the support and resources you need to fulfill this critical role in our community of caring.
